  • MidAmerica Bank
    Concepted and wrote all types of corporate and marketing communications  including direct mail packages for checking and savings accounts, promotions for commercial bank products, and two quarterly employee magazines.Also edited and rewrote copy content for internal and external Web sites.
  • Chicago Theological Seminary
    Collaborated with the President and Chairman of the Board on public relations and marketing strategies to publicize the institution’s 150th anniversary. Created ads, newsletters, marketing materials, and e-mail messages for alumni, students, and donors.
  • The Derson Group
    Oversaw creation of all marketing materials for this boutique outplacement firm from brand development to trade show displays. Wrote 26 online articles on job search for the firm’s clients that were later published in the “Working” section of the Chicago Tribune.
  • Wm. Wrigley Jr. and Company
    Interviewed C-level executives at the company for a series of articles on “Living Our Values” for the company’s intranet newsletter. These pieces were later used in Wrigley’s successful application to the 2007 list of Fortune Magazine’s “Best Companies to Work For.”

Concepted and wrote marketing pieces, Web copy, and promotions for Baxter, Bard, and other pharma clients.  Proposed a “make your own video adventure” activity for Baxter’s Advate booth at the National Hemophilia Association. The most popular attraction at the conference, it reflected the product’s claim that on Advate people with hemophilia could still enjoy active lives.

Created a new brand positioning for UMarketing LLC, a newly formed integrated marketing agency specializing in customer-centric strategies. Proposed the company’s new name, concepted all of its business-to-business collateral, co-designed the agency’s Web site, and wrote the site’s original copy content.

Blau/Direct Edge (now part of Euro RSCG)

Created direct response packages for Sears Credit Card, SunTrust Bank, Capital One, and more. Turned a “down-and-dirty” cautionary statement insert for high-risk Sears credit card users into a customer service newsletter on how to use credit wisely. This one-time piece was so well received by Sears customers it became a quarterly enclosure in billing statements for years. 
 

Senior Writer/Assistant Vice-President 1989 – 1996
MBNA America (now part of Bank of America)
Wilmington, DE

Concepted hundreds of direct mail campaigns for dozens of different affinity card programs. Most of these packages exceeded response goals and many were unbeatable controls for several years. Introduced the use of video and broadcast spots to market products, enhance internal communications, and recruit new talent. Proposed, established, and led the department’s first Quality Assurance team to ensure all internal and external communications were in compliance with regulatory and brand guidelines.
